Positive Psychology is a field of research, and to a lesser extent, a treatment approach, which came out of the work of psychologist Martin Seligman in the early 1990’s. 

As a clinician who has evaluated hundreds of children with ADHD, as well as having a son with ADHD, I noticed over the years that these children often struggle with math skills in school. 

ADHD is defined as a neurodevelopmental disorder that is first evident in early childhood. Thus, it is common for children with ADHD to first be identified by pre-school teachers, daycare center staff, and the family pediatrician.

Often, I get calls from parents asking me to evaluate their teen for ADHD. “I understand he’s having trouble focusing on schoolwork, and I’d be glad to evaluate him, but the cause is likely to be something else.”
